Matt Mayhall provides the type of drum instruction that is informed by many years of rigorous study at some of the nation’s top schools, as well as a uniquely eclectic career as a live performer and recording artist.
In the world of pop/rock music, he has performed and/or recorded with Aimee Mann, Liz Phair, John Doe, Ted Leo, LP, Susanna Hoffs, Miranda Lee Richards, Emmy Rossum, Patrick Wolf, Fred Armisen, and countless others. In jazz, he has worked professionally with Charlie Haden, Chris Speed, Jeff Parker, George Colligan, Tim Lefebvre, Eric Revis, David Piltch, and many others.
Matt possesses an MFA in Jazz Studies from California Institute of the Arts, where he was mentored by jazz drumming great Joe LaBarbera (Bill Evans, Tony Bennett). He also possesses BM and MM degrees in Percussion from the University of Nevada Reno.
Matt has served as adjunct faculty at Cal Arts, USC, Musicians Institute in Hollywood, University of Nevada Reno, and the Academy of Creative Education at The Oakwood School in North Hollywood.
Matt endorses Gretsch Drums, Sabian Cymbals, and Innovative Percussion Sticks and Mallets.
